On September 25, 2015, the United Nations General Assembly approved the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, a comprehensive, multidimensional, and global action plan aimed at sustainable global development.

The 2030 Agenda establishes a system of 17 sustainable development goals with the purpose of addressing major global challenges, from fighting against poverty and climate change to promoting education, health, gender equality, peace, and sustainable cities. Each SDG includes different targets (169 in total) whhich contribute to achieving the goal.

The 2030 Agenda challenges everyone, and its success requires an effective multilevel governance system at international, national, regional, and local levels. Each responsible level of government must engage with other actors (from business, academia, and civil society)  through consensus, partnerships, and collaboration to promote, implement, and achieve the goals.

EUSS joins the Don Bosco Green Alliance.

Green Alliance

The Don Bosco Green Alliance is an international collective of Don Bosco’s institutions, and organizations committed to both global environmental actions and policies. Its mission is to create a safe environment which takes care of the planet's life, while simultaneously creating a generation of environmentally committed citizens and leaders.

This alliance focuses on three priority areas: beating pollution, reducing global warming, and eliminating disposable plastics. Each of these areas is associated with global campaigns promoted by the United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment).

Currently, more than 430 Salesian centres from 75 countries, including EUSS, have joined the Don Bosco Green Alliance platform. To join, it is necessary to promote awareness about sustainability among young people, as well as to commit to fulfilling three environmental actions.

EUSS, for its part, has committed to: (1) using renewable energy sources, (2) replacing standard light bulbs with low-energy bulbs, and (3) reducing the use of plastic bottles by replacing them with reusable bottles. In this context, EUSS has achieved the green energy seal, which certifies that it is supplied with 100% renewable energy. Additionally, to fulfil its third commitment, EUSS has distributed reusable bamboo bottles to all its staff.
